E:D Black Box
The same 666-armour, ~516 MJ-shield warship that tops the combat ladder makes a near-unkillable anti-Xeno platform: two military slots for Guardian module hardening, eight utilities, deep internals and capital agility that holds Gauss on an Interceptor's hearts. It loses points only because no huge AX weapon exists — its signature huge mounts run oversized — and because a 900-tonne hull still can't dodge Thargoid lightning like a medium can. Behind that sits the Federal Rear Admiral grind.
This ship's 1–100 suitability rating reflects its fully-engineered fit for this role, scored against every ship in the role. See how ships are rated.
Point the best combat hull in the game at the Thargoids and you get one of the toughest AX warships flying. The Federal Corvette brings 666 battleship armour, a ~516 MJ shield, two military slots for Guardian Module Reinforcement, eight utility mounts and eleven optional internals — everything you need to soak caustic damage, ride out Interceptor lightning, and keep firing while lighter ships are already running for repair. Its surprising agility for a 900-tonne hull lets it hold Gauss cannons on an exposed heart far better than the other capitals.
The reason it sits at 86 rather than the top of the AX ladder is specific and honest: no huge AX weapon exists. The Corvette's defining pair of huge hardpoints can only mount large-or-smaller AX/Guardian guns, so its signature firepower advantage shrinks against a foe its big slots can't fully exploit. And while it turns well for a capital, it still cannot dodge a Thargoid's lightning and swarm the way a Chieftain or Krait can. It out-tanks every AX medium and matches the Type-10 for sheer durability — the Cutter just out-shields it, and the agile mediums score higher on survivable evasion.
Attritional anti-Xeno work: standing in AX Conflict Zones, anchoring a wing as the immovable damage-soak, Titan and Maelstrom operations where staying power matters, and any fight you intend to win by outlasting rather than out-dodging.
Four things make the Corvette a battleship-grade Xeno hunter:
There is no huge AX weapon, so the Corvette's two huge hardpoints carry large-class AX/Guardian guns — powerful, but not the dominating huge mounts that win it the conventional combat crown. It also demands Federal Rear Admiral, needs a large pad, costs ~188M Cr before kit, and — for all its agility — is still too heavy to truly dodge an Interceptor's lightning. Its case is survivability and firepower-by-attrition, not evasion.
A capital AX tank — 666 armour, two military slots and eight utilities make it nearly unkillable — held to 86 because a 900t hull can't dodge Thargoid lightning like the mediums.
The 86/100 headline is a verdict against the anti-Xeno role's priority-ordered factors. Each factor carries a weight (its share of 100); this hull earns part of each based on how it performs against the whole field. The points sum to the rating.
| Role factor | Score | Why this score |
|---|---|---|
| Hardpoints for Gauss | 20/25 | Seven mounts (2H 1L 2M 2S), but Gauss are medium-class so only the two medium slots take the heart-killers — the Gunship fields four. The two huge mounts under-fill with large Enhanced AX multi-cannons since no huge AX gun exists. |
| Heat capacity & management | 18/20 | A 900-tonne hull and capital surface area soak the heavy Gauss heat spikes well; eight utilities mount two Heat Sink Launchers plus a Caustic Sink, and the G5 Overcharged plant runs Thermal Spread to bleed it. |
| Hull tank & reinforcement room | 19/20 | Role-leading short of the Cutter: 666 base armour, ~516 MJ shield, eleven optionals and two class-5 military slots for Guardian MRP push engineered figures to ~2,000+ MJ shield and ~4,000+ effective armour. |
| Agility | 20/25 | 198/257 m/s and enough turn to hold Gauss on an exposed heart at capital mass, but at ~900t it absorbs Interceptor lightning rather than dodging it — the agile mediums (Chieftain, Krait) score higher because evasion is survival. The lead limiter. |
| Caustic handling & support slots | 9/10 | Eight utility mounts plus deep internals carry the full AX support kit at once: Xeno scanner, Caustic Sink, Decontamination Limpet Controller, Point Defence, and Guardian HRP/MRP stacking that adds caustic resistance across the hull. |
| Weighted total | 86/100 | Matches the headline suitability rating for this ship in this role. |
Weights are an editorial decomposition of the role's stated priority order — not an in-game formula. Bar length shows how fully each factor is earned; the longest factors carried the score, the shortest are where it gave points away. See how ships are rated.
Both tables rate ships for anti-Xeno combat specifically. The role column is the hardpoint loadout — the basis for an AX weapon suite. Evasion, hardening and heat management matter as much as raw mounts.
| Ship | Class | Hardpoints | Pros & cons vs Federal Corvette | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Imperial Cutter | Large | 1H 2L 4M | Highest shield tank in the game; fasterImperial Duke rank; even worse at dodging | 90 |
| Anaconda | Large | 1H 3L 2M 2S | Eight mounts; vast internals; no rank gateLess tank; one fewer military slot | 88 |
| Federal Corvette this | Large | 2H 1L 2M 2S | — this hull (baseline) | 86 |
| Type-10 Defender | Large | 4L 3M 2S | More mounts; even higher armour; no rankFar slower; feeble shields | 86 |
Among the large AX hulls the Corvette is the balanced warship: shy of the Cutter's enormous shield, tougher and more agile than the Anaconda, and matching the Type-10 for staying power while turning far better than that turret barge. The Rear Admiral grind and the missing huge AX gun are what hold it a few points back.
| Ship | Class | Hardpoints | Pros & cons vs Federal Corvette | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alliance Chieftain | Medium | 2L 1M 3S | Agile; dodges lightning; cheap; no rankA fraction of the tank and utility count | 90 |
| Krait Mk II | Medium | 3L 2M | High DPS; SLF; agile; no rankNo military slots; far less tank | 89 |
| Alliance Challenger | Medium | 1L 3M 3S | Agile tank; 3 military slots; no rankLess raw tank and utility room | 88 |
| Krait Phantom | Medium | 2L 2M | Fast skirmisher; long reach; no rankFewer mounts; no military slots | 84 |
| Federal Gunship | Medium | 1L 4M 2S | Maximum Gauss mounts; tough; lower rankSlow and clumsy; less tank | 82 |
The agile mediums score higher because in AX, evasion is survival — a Chieftain dodges the lightning a Corvette must absorb. What the Corvette offers instead is the ability to stand in the fire: two military slots, capital armour and eight utilities mean it outlasts anything when the fight turns into a slugging match or a held position in an AXCZ.
At ~188M Cr the Corvette is one of the most expensive hulls in the game, and it sits behind the Federal Rear Admiral rank — a long climb up the Dropship→FAS→Gunship ladder. A full AX fit with Guardian/AX weapons, capital shields and double-layered reinforcement runs to ~435M Cr A-rated, rising past ~480M Cr engineered, with a rebuy near ~22M to budget for.
It is an endgame AX ship, not a starter. If you've already earned the rank for a combat Corvette, converting one to AX is the natural next step — you get a Thargoid platform that almost never dies. If you're learning AX, do it in a cheaper, more forgiving Chieftain first.
~480M Cr engineered plus the Guardian-tech grind buys the toughest AX warship short of the Cutter. The Rear Admiral rank and the ~22M rebuy are the real price of admission — this is a capstone hull, flown by commanders who already own the rank.
A battleship AX tank: large enhanced AX multi-cannons on the huge mounts (no huge AX gun exists), Guardian Gauss cannons on the mediums for heart damage, Guardian reinforcement filling both military slots and the deep optionals, eight utilities and an SLF decoy. Initial is the buy-only bare hull; A-Rated adds the unlock-gated AX kit; Engineered hardens shields, hull, heat and mobility.

Unlike the AX mediums, the Corvette fills both military slots and several optionals with Guardian reinforcement — it survives by absorbing the lightning, not dodging it. Put Gauss on the mediums for heart damage, large AX multi-cannons in the huge slots (no huge AX gun exists), and run caustic and heat kit hard. The SLF decoy buys time when a swarm piles on.
The buy-only state is a bare hull on stock core internals and its factory Lightweight Alloy bulkheads: an 8E Power Plant, 7E Thrusters, 6E Frame Shift Drive, 5E Life Support, 8E Power Distributor, 8E Sensors and a 5C Fuel Tank. That is the entire fit at this stage.
Every hardpoint, all eight utilities, both military slots and all eleven optional internals stay empty (—). The AX multi-cannons, Guardian Gauss and shard cannons, Xeno scanner, Guardian Module/Hull Reinforcement and the capital bi-weave shield are all unlock-gated, so none of them can be bought outright — they wait for the A-Rated pass, alongside the decontamination limpet controller and the field-maintenance unit.
Earn Rear Admiral, buy the hull, then unlock the Guardian and AX kit at the relevant sites before fitting any of it.
AX-fitting priority for the warship:
The Corvette earns its rating by surviving — prioritise Military-Grade plate, the Guardian MRP and a layered shield/hull tank, with the AFM Unit putting stripped modules back online, over chasing DPS its missing huge AX gun can't deliver anyway.
AX engineering hardens shields, hull, heat and mobility; AX/Guardian weapons have limited engineering. Pin blueprints for remote G1→G5 application; visit in person for experimentals.

Very heavy — G5 across class-8 cores and a deep capital defensive suite, on top of the substantial Guardian-tech grind for weapons and reinforcement. The Guardian unlocks are the real cost; ship blueprints are standard. Ask for exact per-blueprint or unlock counts if needed.
Approximate progression across the three states (figures are representative, not exact rolls):
| Stat | Initial | A-rated | Engineered |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shield (MJ) | ~516 | ~1,000 | ~2,000+ |
| Armour (eff.) | 666 (Lightweight) | ~2,500 (Mil-Grade + Guardian HRP) | ~5,000+ (Heavy Duty plate + HRP) |
| Module hardening | none | 3 Guardian MRP | 3 MRP + 6A AFM Unit |
| AX firepower | high | high | high (no huge AX gun) |
| Agility (dodge) | fair (capital) | fair | good (for capital) |
Engineered, the Corvette is the toughest AX warship short of the Cutter: a shield into the low thousands, Military-Grade plate rolled Heavy Duty pushing effective armour past five thousand, three Guardian MRP soaking the lightning, a 6A AFM Unit restoring caustic-stripped modules between passes, and Gauss-and-AX firepower that ends Interceptors steadily. It cannot dodge like a medium, so it wins by refusing to die — an attrition platform for the held position.
Wherever Thargoids are fought — AXCZ, Interceptor hunts, Maelstrom and Titan ops. The Corvette is the warship you bring when the plan is to outlast the fight, not run from it.
The Federal Corvette is the battleship of anti-Xeno combat: 666 armour, a capital shield, two military slots for Guardian hardening and eight utilities make it nearly unkillable in a held AXCZ. It scores 86 — behind the Cutter's bigger shield and the agile mediums' survivable evasion — because no huge AX gun matches its signature mounts and a 900-tonne hull can't dodge the lightning. Earn the Rear Admiral rank, and you have a Thargoid warship that wins by attrition.
